Workshop: Bartitsu – Martial Arts for Gentlemen

Pacific Media Expo Martial Arts Programming presents a workshop on Bartitsu (Bar – tit – soo). This gentlemen’s martial art from England’s Victorian Era was developed by Edward William Barton-Wright. Barton-Wright blended Pugilism, Savate, Cane Fighting, and Judo / Jujitsu to create this fighting art taught to high society. The concept eclectic pragmatism in Bartitsu predates Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do by 70 years

Anime and Manga series like Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) and Dantarian no Shoka (The Mystic Archives of Dantalian) , as well as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective character Sherlock Holmes utilize a martial art inspired by this eclectic fighting system.

Having trained extensively under the Legendary Dan Inosanto, Alvin Catacutan and his colleagues from the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts will compare and contrast techniques found in Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do to those found in Bartitisu.  Participants will also be introduced to basic self defense inspired by both arts.  Please checkout Sensei Alvin Catacutan’s website
